Direct Investments Group, Europe (Private Equity)

The Direct Investments strategy is part of the Private Equity division of GIC. The team focuses on sourcing and investing directly in private companies by taking minority equity positions as well as providing structured equity financing solutions. Their typical investment size ranges from $200m to $1bn across a wide range of industries including TMT, Healthcare, Financial Services, Business services, Consumer and Industrials. On the deal execution front, the group split their time relatively equally between deals where they are the sole minority investor (i.e. transactions with no partner) and consortium deals on large buy-out transactions.

 

GIC is looking for a suitable candidate to join its Direct Investments team in Europe as an Associate. This close-knit team currently comprises 9 investment professionals all based in London.

Responsibilities

  • Helping the team in sourcing, evaluating and executing direct private equity minority equity investments
  • Full involvement in all aspects of the transaction process including leading some parts of the commercial and financial diligence, management of advisors, modelling, valuation and preparation of notes for the investment committee
  • Establishing, developing and maintaining relationships with counterparties, potential and existing investee companies across a couple of sectors alongside more senior investment officers
  • Additional responsibilities such as portfolio management and additional country coverage may be given in due course
  • Monitor assigned investments, for example, supporting assigned GIC representative at investor / board meetings, interacting with management and other investors on a regular basis, working on on-going strategic initiatives in the companies, and developing exit plans
  • Be part of special projects as assigned from time to time (for example, developing new analytical systems or market mapping of industries)

 

Requirements

  • Educated to post graduate / graduate level of a highly reputed institution with strong results
  • Strong track record of performance at current employer
  • Self-starter and ability to operate in a less structured environment
  • Very strong commercial judgment and a passion for understanding what drives business quality and value
  • The ability to develop and defend an investment point of view
  • Exceptional skills for industry and financial analysis
  • Experienced in building financial models for valuations and financial returns analysis
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in deal teams
  • Candidates should ideally have worked one to three years at a leading investment bank, M&A/Advisory firm, consulting firm or principle investing / private equity fund
  • Experience of working on European deals and at least one European language alongside English would be a plus
