The Real Estate (RE) arm of GIC invests in real estate and real estate-related assets outside of Singapore. We manage a well-diversified portfolio covering over 40 countries in property sectors such as office, life science, data center, residential, senior living, healthcare, retail, hotel, industrial, niche sectors and companies.  

 

This role would be involved in investments currently in USA, Mexico, Canada, Brazil and most countries in Europe currently.  The geographic remit will expand as GIC invests in additional countries in the Americas and Europe.  Some tasks may also support GIC Singapore home office as well as investments in Asia, as appropriate.

 

Real Estate – Asset Development and Engineering (ADE)

The ADE acts as the technical support group for the investment team. ADE’s primary focus areas are to actively manage and monitor all technical due diligence, engineering, development, maintenance, and facilities management issues for both new and existing investments. ADE assists in fee negotiations, development of key contractual documents and contract negotiations with sellers, partners, and consultants as necessary.  ADE is also heavily involved in Sustainability, Energy Efficiency and ESG efforts at the asset, joint venture and corporate level.

 

Based in our London office the position will report to the Head of ADE for Americas and our London based Managing Director, Global Investments and Portfolio Strategy, Real Estate.

 

Purpose of the role: To lead GIC’s ADE ESG team for real estate and improve the sustainability profile and financial value of its assets.

 

This newly created role will be required to: establish the vision; define objectives and metrics; create a framework, team, and set of practices aimed at continuous improvement; lead implementation of initiatives; monitor and report results internally; and communicate to relevant GIC stakeholders and external audiences.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Define and develop strategic approach to embedding ESG policies and metrics into GIC real estate activities
  • Establish and oversee ESG projects (such as carbon foot printing, regulation, etc.)
  • Identify and meet regulatory and compliance requirements for assets and anticipate emerging regulation
  • Evaluate market drivers and ESG maturity based on asset type and location to help set priorities for improvement
  • Embed ESG metrics/goals into specific activities (screening, due diligence, asset management, disposal, etc.)
  • Coordinate external consultant teams for GIC ESG real estate activities
  • Set goals/KPIs, develop standardised practices across ADE team and regularly report on progress
  • Represent GIC on ESG matters with stakeholders (NGOs, partners, tenants, etc.)
  • Create and run ESG workshops/training modules for GIC colleagues
  • Evaluate emerging technology/best practice and relevance/efficacy in achieving GIC real estate objectives
  • Evaluate staffing needs within ADE ESG group, recruiting, training and supervision of the ESG subgroup within ADE Americas and Europe

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience creating and running global ESG/sustainability projects and teams
  • Demonstrated leadership with leading NGOs and international companies
  • In-depth knowledge of real estate regulation, markets and practices
  • Cross-industry experience, especially with technology, renewables, etc.
  • Strong writing, speaking, analytical and communication skills
  • Strong skills in training internal personnel
  • Strong skills in producing and presenting information to the highest levels of GIC globally
  • Appropriate education and experience for the role.   20 years of related experience preferred.
  • Able to perform extensive national and international travel as required and work effectively across many countries, cultures, and languages.
  • Effective team player with ownership mentality
