Assistant Vice President, Operational Due Diligence (New York office), Investment Services Public Markets



Investment Services Public Markets, or ISPM, is an integrated investment service team that uses data and emerging technologies to provide services for public market investment activities strategically and tactically. The team provides investment services for all public market investment groups such as business strategy advisory, global execution management, asset servicing, collateral management, market data management, network management and custody control.  The coverage extends across a spectrum of products such as equities, bonds, money market, foreign exchange, futures, collateralized securities and other derivatives.


We are looking for a professional in ISPM’s Operational Due Diligence (ODD) team to support investment teams across the Private Equity and Real Estate groups. ISPM’s objectives for ODD center around the following:

  • Augment GIC’s investment due diligence efforts with consistent application of GIC risk framework, investment guidelines and market practices
  • Avoid and mitigate reputational and operational risks from fund investments
  • Active management and ongoing monitoring of operational risks with external fund managers

The role will require primary focus on private market funds, with opportunity to manage public market funds. ISPM’s ODD headquarters is based out of Singapore, with a local team in New York.



  • Functional Expertise
    • Work with investment due diligence teams across multiple global offices to conduct and manage the operational due diligence for a portfolio of fund investments in private and public markets.
    • Review and report qualitative and quantitative assessments of fund managers’ operations, internal controls, risks, as well as ongoing developments, news, regulatory standards and industry developments affecting the managers, their service providers and GIC’s investments. Responsibilities include project management, scoping procedures, on-site visits, service provider reviews, documentation, consolidation and reporting. A substantial part of the role involves project managing external operational due diligence resources or consultants to manage the portfolio on a day-to-day basis.
    • Monitor market and regulatory trends and developments. Identify and analyse the impact of such changes and provide prompt, relevant advice to the business.
    • Proactively manage expectations of all stakeholders and resolve issues in a professional and tactful manner.
    • Establish strong business network within the organization.
    • Establish market-aligned practices for operational due diligence.
  • Innovation
    • Initiate and manage ad-hoc projects (e.g., technology adoption).
    • Assist in developing business plans, policies and procedures related to the assigned projects.
    • Lead the review, adaptation or improvement of processes and workflows across the team, including identifying possible new business requirements and capabilities.



  • Functional Expertise
    • Excellent academics, preferably with a CPA designation.
    • 6 to 10 years of related experience in operational due diligence (audit, accounting and back office operations will be considered as well) over a broad range of strategies and jurisdictions, including hedge fund, private equity and real estate funds.
    • Recognized as a subject matter expert by stakeholders and seen as the go-to-person for expert advice. Good knowledge of global regulatory and compliance rules and regulations, as well as risk, structures, operational processes/policies/controls and best practices in the fund industry.

    • Acts as a strong advocate for and personally contribute to Investment Services Public Markets. Align team strategy with department level and organizational wide initiatives.
    • Able to lead local members to set and accomplish overall team targets. Experience in managing, coaching or supporting a global team to drive performance excellence, while being able to balance with adhering to and reporting to various managers and stakeholders across multiple time zones.
    • Provide constructive ideas or challenge status quo, while demonstrating maturity and openness to feedback on ideas that are not accepted.  Considers management angles in decision making.
    • Display good judgment on decisions made. Clear articulation of rationale and thought process. Follow through to execute decisions and see them through implementation.
    • Occasional travel may be required.
    • Willingness to participate in regular night calls with the headquarters team in Singapore.
