GIC’s Legal and Compliance Department (LCD) manages legal, regulatory and compliance risks for GIC. LCD partners with the business to ensure that such risks are identified, assessed and dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.

 

LCD – Counsel for NYO

 

We are looking for a highly motivated, high caliber corporate/M&A lawyer to join our Legal group in New York. This individual will work with other members of the Legal group in supporting the GIC Real Estate (GICRE) group in their investment activities. 

 

Primary responsibilities:

 

  • Identify key legal and reputational risks in transactions arising from investment activities.

 

  • Recommend and implement solutions to address a wide variety of legal issues.

 

  • Liaise, review and advise on regulatory compliance issues with GIC’s Compliance department.

 

  • Liaise and consult with top international and local law firms on a variety of legal matters, with a view to delivering superior services on a cost-effective basis.

 

  • Review and manage transactions to close, and draft and/or comment on associated contracts.

 

  • Assist with legal needs arising from GIC’s day-to-day operations in the Americas, including managing litigation matters and processing corporate services agreements.

 

  • Contribute and promote teamwork and collaboration among the LCD team.

 

  • Participate in or contribute to GIC-wide initiatives and projects as needed on a global basis.

 

Requirements:

 

  • You should have a law degree with strong academic results from a good law school with between 3 to 5 years post qualification experience as a corporate/M&A lawyer with a top US law firm. Relevant legal experience in corporate real estate transactions, real estate finance and/or investment funds matters will be an advantage.

 

  • You should be licensed to practice law in a U.S. state (preferably New York or California).

 

  • You possess an analytical mind, are intellectually curious, with a good knowledge of commercial law, and are able to identify legal risks and propose solutions while balancing business objectives.

 

  • You have good negotiating skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to effectively represent GIC in dealings with our counterparties, and LCD with internal parties.

 

  • You are adaptable to changes and are resourceful, can multitask within tight timelines, are able to work independently and in a team, with drive and a strong desire to succeed.
