VP, Quantitative Research Analyst, Credit
New York, US
GIC is one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds. With over 2,000 employees across 11 offices around the world, we invest in more than 40 countries globally across asset classes and businesses. Working at GIC gives you exposure to an extraordinary network of the world’s industry leaders. As a leading global long-term investor, we Work at the Point of Impact for Singapore’s financial future, and the communities we invest in worldwide.
Portfolio Execution & Solutions Group
We have teams in Singapore, London and New York, and we provide a full spectrum of services for the Total Portfolio. These include trading and structured advisory, funding and liquidity management, securities lending, beta management, portfolio rebalancing, applied quantitative research, and counterparty relationship management. We also deliver systematic portfolio solutions and innovation, such as portfolio construction techniques and tail-risk management, to strengthen total portfolio construction and resilience.
Execution Research & Advisory
Execution Research & Advisory (ERA) is a global team of market structure specialists based in Singapore and New York. We specialise in multi-asset quantitative research, focusing on market microstructure and liquidity modelling to improve execution outcomes and systematise decision-making.
We deliver through two connected capabilities. Execution Research translates insight from our own work and academic literature into practical execution solutions. Execution Advisory provides judgment-led, evidence-based guidance to the traders and investment teams making live decisions. Together they improve execution outcomes across GIC, protecting investment returns and reducing transaction costs.
What impact can you make in this role?
We are seeking a Quantitative Research Analyst to lead ERA's credit coverage from New York. You will work closely with traders and portfolio managers, identifying problems as they emerge, with the time to research and solve them properly. You will report to the Head of ERA, and your work will inform execution across GIC's fixed income mandates globally.
At VP level you will be expected to set direction as well as deliver. You will identify which problems are worth solving, turn ambiguous business questions into tractable research, be responsible for the stakeholder relationships around them, and steer ERA's credit research agenda within a cross-asset team.
What will you do as a Quantitative Research Analyst?
- Lead GIC's credit execution research agenda. Set a multi-phase roadmap spanning market impact and liquidity modeling, counterparty and platform selection, portfolio trading, protocol choice and transaction cost analysis (TCA). Translate that roadmap into prioritized research with clear measures of success.
- Apply advanced quantitative methods to high-granularity trade and quote data to answer questions that have no existing solution. Work through a disciplined research process to ensure outcomes are robust.
- Act as ERA's point of contact for Credit: the primary stakeholder lead for traders and portfolio managers with credit execution questions. You will be responsible for those relationships, shaping the resulting research agenda, and making prioritization decisions within ERA's broader objectives.
- Guide the credit research roadmap for our proprietary execution analytics platform. Propose new models, metrics and datasets, work with developers to deploy them into production, and close the feedback loop so one-off answers become durable, reusable capability.
- Represent ERA's credit research externally. Maintain a view across peer institutions, dealers, trading platforms, vendors and academic literature. Lead those conversations with autonomy, tracking market developments and applying what is relevant to our own context.
- Strengthen research quality across the wider team. Review code and methodology, contribute to research discussions, and make credit insight transferable to rates, FX and listed markets through our shared research frameworks.
What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?
- Professional experience in a quantitative research or markets role covering credit or broader fixed income (for example as a researcher, quantitative analyst, trader or portfolio manager), including experience of taking research from problem formulation to application.
- Knowledge of credit market structure: dealer intermediation and balance sheet constraints, RFQ and all-to-all protocols, portfolio trading, ETF-driven liquidity, and how credit liquidity behaves under stress.
- Familiarity with the credit data landscape (TRACE, consolidated tapes, evaluated pricing, dealer inventory indications, quote data) and a realistic view of its limitations, with experience of fixed income transaction cost analysis (TCA).
- A practical understanding of where ML/AI genuinely add value in execution research and decision support, and where simpler, more interpretable methods are the better choice.
- The ability to scope ill-defined problems into research that can be delivered, to allocate scarce research effort to the highest-value opportunities, and to explain complex analysis precisely to both technical and non-technical audiences
Also useful, though not essential:
- Familiarity with rates or FX market structure, given our cross-asset remit.
- Experience with kdb+/q and Databricks.
- Experience representing a research team to dealers, trading platforms and vendors.
