Infrastructure

We deploy long-term capital through direct investments (in private and public equity), fund investments, and co-investments. This is done across the capital structure and across all sub-segments of infrastructure to help build a strong and diversified portfolio. 

 

What impact can you make in this role?               

You will be part of a team that invests into infrastructure companies with stable and predictable cash flows, long-term inflation protection and reasonable risk-adjusted returns.

 

You make direct equity investments across the infrastructure asset class – including gas and electricity networks, power generation and renewables, communications infrastructure, water utilities and highways.

 

What will you do as a VP?

Investment Thesis Development / Deal Sourcing

  • Lead coverage of regulated utilities in North America, liaising directly with companies, financial intermediaries and related peers.
  • Evaluate opportunities to put through the pipeline and work closely with senior team members in the formulation of investment theses and risks, approach and execution.

 

Investment Analysis and Execution

  • Play a critical role in the full deal lifecycle: originating and executing investment opportunities,  and managing external advisors.
  • Have a strong voice in deal appraisal, negotiating transaction documentation and presenting investment decisions to Investment Committee on a regular basis and for assessing fit and risk criteria in line with GIC’s investment philosophy.

 

Asset Management

  • Beyond investment approval, take an active role in asset management, reporting on investment progress, attending board meetings and eventually sitting on the boards of investee businesses.
  • Play a central role in the ongoing monitoring of both the financial and operational aspects of portfolio investments while adding value to investee companies

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of team members.
  • Be part of special projects within the firm as assigned from time to time.

 

What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?

  • 8 to 10 years of relevant work experience in infrastructure investments. Experience as a direct equity investor will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrable track record or deep familiarity with the regulated utilities sector.
  • Experience successfully leading the underwriting and overseeing the execution of infrastructure, private equity, or related long-duration investments.
  • Intellectual curiosity, and interest in investment opportunities across infrastructure as an asset class, including listed equities.
  • Strong investment judgment, with the ability to deeply and thoroughly analyze industries and businesses (i.e., understanding the components and drivers of success beyond the financials).
  • Industry networks to source deals and/or be the first contact for potential investments, and willingness to share these networks with the wider team.
  • Maturity, presence, and strong organizational and verbal communication skills are critical due to exposure to, and close interaction with, senior members of the investment team and senior executives.
  • Foundational training at a top-tier investment bank, project finance division, or management consulting organization.
  • Undergraduate degree with top academic qualifications

Compensation

Our compensation philosophy reflects several principles. We strive to provide a competitive compensation package to attract and retain talent globally. We pay for performance, and reward sustainable results. Total pay for this position comprises base pay and bonus.

 

The anticipated base salary range for this role is between $220,000 and $325,000. Bonuses, which may form a meaningful proportion of the total pay package, are determined based on company and individual performance.
