Portfolio Execution Group (Applied Research Unit)

The Applied Research Unit, sitting within our Portfolio Execution Group, specializes in multi-asset quantitative research, focusing on market microstructure and liquidity modelling to improve execution outcomes and systematize decision-making processes. We collaborate closely with GIC’s traders, investment teams, risk management, and total portfolio functions to enhance strategy implementation while providing valuable insights into liquidity and market structure.

  • Influence execution outcomes by delivering innovative quantitative and systematic solutions in a collegiate and collaborative environment. Actively contribute to team research discussions.
  • Own research projects from ideation to production, leveraging a dedicated team of developers to implement models and quickly see your impact.
  • Demonstrate intellectual flexibility and curiosity about markets, identifying opportunities to enhance GIC's approach to execution and understanding of fixed income market microstructure.
  • Build a strong understanding of internal mandates and investment styles, from quant to fundamental, to identify potential projects and collaborations across the business. Regularly interact with portfolio managers.

  • A genuine interest in global fixed income market microstructure and current events, with the ability to transform data into actionable insights. Familiarity with FX market structure would be beneficial to the role.
  • A strong understanding of the fixed income data landscape (e.g. TRACE, evaluated prices), preferably with direct experience of fixed income Transaction Cost Analysis (TCA).
  • A practical understanding of the relevance and application of machine learning methods to execution and counterparty selection.
  • A proven track record of producing models and analysis based on quantitative methods.
  • Direct experience in planning and executing research projects.
  • Excellent coding skills in languages such as Python, R, SQL, and kdb/Q. Experience with platforms such as Databricks.
