Global Investment Services
GIS provides strategic investment services and financial management across GIC’s public and private market asset classes. Leveraging data and emerging technologies, the department drives the development and execution of business infrastructure plans while shaping scalable, agile, and resilient operating models that enable growth and deliver operational excellence.
GIS provides operational expertise spanning market settlements, transaction management and execution, investment data operations, portfolio finance, valuations, accounting, and tax services, as well as portfolio administration.
What impact can you make in this role?
The Total Portfolio Rebalancing Services (TPRS) team plays a critical role in supporting GIC’s total portfolio operations. The team partners closely with investment, risk, and operations teams to deliver robust and scalable rebalancing and index management capabilities that enable efficient portfolio implementation and alignment with strategic asset allocation objectives.
As part of the TPRS Index Operations function, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end lifecycle of benchmark and index data, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and operational integrity across systems and processes. You will also contribute to continuous improvements in data governance, automation, and workflow efficiency — including exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to enhance data quality monitoring, exception detection, and process optimization — to support the firm’s evolving investment strategies.
What will you do as an AVP, Index Operations?
Index Operations:
- Manage Daily Operations: Run the daily operations of the index platform, ensuring timely and accurate calculation and publication of index values.
- Quality Control: Implement and maintain rigorous quality control processes to ensure the integrity and accuracy of index data and core index methodology checks.
- Data Management: Ensure the accuracy and completeness of data used for index calculations, including prices, market capitalization, and other relevant metrics.
- Issue Resolution: Address and resolve any operational issues or discrepancies related to index calculations, index methodology and publications.
Solutioning and Innovation:
- Platform Enhancement: Identify opportunities for improving the index platform, including automation, scalability, and efficiency enhancements.
- Technology Integration: Collaborate with IT and technology teams to implement new tools and technologies that enhance index operations.
- Process Improvement: Develop and implement process improvements to streamline index operations and reduce operational risk.
- Project Management: Lead and manage projects related to index platform enhancements, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives.
Stakeholder Management:
- Client Support: Provide support to stakeholders regarding index-related inquiries and issues.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including data and rebalancing, to ensure alignment and support for index operations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills to work as the central interface of multiple functions, balancing the priorities of various teams, and managing the constructive tension between investment department business priorities and central governance and enterprise requirements.
Governance:
- Governance: Establish and maintain governance frameworks for index operations, including policies, procedures, and controls.
What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?
Experience & Domain Knowledge
- Degree holder with at least 5 years of working experience in index management.
- Possess good knowledge of financial instruments and markets. An additional qualification like CFA will be considered favourably.
- Passion for data and process-oriented analysis with strong analytic and business diagnostic skills
- Strong learning agility with the ability to “connect the dots”.
- Good grasp of process design, operational problem solving, governance workflows, with an eye for streamlining and efficiency.
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Proficiency with index operations.
- Experience with data providers such as MSCI, Bloomberg, Refinitiv, S&P, Markit and others would be preferred.
- Experience with Python, SQL and Tableau is preferred.
- Experience applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) or advanced analytics to enhance data quality, analytics, or operational efficiency is preferred.
