The Artificial Intelligence Alpha Group (AAG) is a newly formed, AI-native investment team building and applying advanced AI technologies to deliver superior investment performance. We are a collaborative and cross-functional team of investors, data scientists, and technologists, using AI to reimagine fundamental investing.
What impact can you make in this role?
We are seeking a Data Scientist to design and operationalize the data modeling layer that underpins our AI-powered investment systems. You will be part of a cross-functional team, working closely with investors, fellow data scientists, and engineers to apply AI in driving investment outperformance.
The ideal candidate combines strong data science and engineering skills with curiosity about financial markets and brings the ability to transform complex datasets into structured, actionable insights that enhance investment performance.
What will you do in this role?
- Work closely with investors, fellow data scientists and data engineers to identify valuable data sources and perform data classification, cleaning, formatting, labeling, modeling, storage, analysis, and statistical evaluation.
- Process both batch and streaming data to support real-time and historical analytics.
- Design and build data platforms in collaboration with system architects and data engineers, ensuring stability, reliability, scalability, and usability across AI and analytical workflows.
- Develop and enhance investment decision data models, maintaining high standards of accuracy, scalability, and computational performance.
- Continuously learn and apply emerging concepts, methods, and tools in data processing, modeling, and AI-oriented workflows including pre-training, fine-tuning, and reinforcement learning to enhance the functionality, scalability, and performance of the data platform.
What qualifications, skills and traits should you possess in this role?
- Formal training in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, with demonstrated experience applying these skills in an applied research or data science environment.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in data science or data modeling; software engineering experience related to data science or data modeling products is a plus.
- Proficiency with data computation tools (e.g., Python, Spark) and familiarity with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and vector databases (e.g., Milvus, FAISS).
- Skilled in applying machine learning and large language models (LLMs) to support data processing, information extraction, and modeling workflows.
- Ability to optimize complex data queries and improve database and data modeling performance.
- Strong software development capabilities and familiarity with standard development practices such as version control, testing, and documentation.
- Knowledge of message queues, distributed databases, or graph databases is an advantage.
- Understanding of financial and investment concepts, including related data structures, documents, and analytical methods, is preferred.
- Working knowledge of cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure, or Databricks).
- Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively across internal and external engineering teams.
