About GIC
GIC is one of the world's largest sovereign wealth funds. With over 2,000 employees across 11 locations around the world, we invest in more than 40 countries globally across asset classes and businesses. Working at GIC gives you exposure to an extraordinary network of the world's industry leaders. As a leading global long-term investor, we work at the Point of Impact for Singapore's financial future, and the communities we invest in worldwide.

Technology Group
We experiment, design, and lead a 24×7 global business where we support core capabilities in asset management, trading, investment operations, and risk management. We deliver secure, reliable, and integrated solutions, and provide insights on new and emerging technologies.

Strategy, Architecture, and Transformation Group
The Strategy, Architecture & Transformation (SAT) group shapes and drives GIC’s technology strategy, ensuring alignment with business priorities and enterprise goals. Bringing together expertise in strategy, architecture, engineering, and transformation, the team strengthens governance, promotes consistency, and accelerates delivery across the Technology Group. Through modern practices and close collaboration, SAT leads the development of an architectural strategy that reinforces oversight and accountability while enabling reliable, scalable solutions and informed decision making across the Technology Group and, more broadly, across GIC.

Developer Experience
The Developer Experience team builds and operates the products and platforms that support the developer experience across GIC's Technology Group. The team is organised around three product pillars:

  • Project Management Tooling — Platforms such as Jira and Confluence that support project tracking, collaboration, and workflow management across the Technology Group.
  • Cloud Development Environments & IDEs — Cloud-based development environments, AI-assisted coding tools, developer toolchains (CLIs, SDKs, IDE extensions, devcontainer features), and agentic development capabilities.
  • DevSecOps & CI/CD — CI/CD pipelines, artifact management, security scanning integration, infrastructure-as-code, and secure software delivery tooling.

What impact can you make in this role?
As a Product Engineer, you will own and drive the delivery of platform products within one or more of these pillars. You will take a product-oriented approach to engineering — understanding user needs, defining roadmaps, and delivering solutions that improve developer productivity while meeting the organisation's security and governance requirements.

This role requires someone who thinks beyond code. You will need to balance user experience with enterprise constraints, advocate for your product's users, and make pragmatic trade-offs between speed, security, and scalability.

What will you do as a Product Engineer?

  • Product Ownership & Delivery
    • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of platform products — from discovery and design through to delivery, adoption, and iteration.
    • Engage with engineering teams across the organisation to understand their workflows, pain points, and needs.
    • Define and prioritise product backlogs based on user feedback, operational data, and strategic direction.
    • Deliver incremental improvements and new capabilities through agile delivery practices.
    • Track and measure product success through adoption, satisfaction, and toil reduction metrics.
  • Platform Engineering & Operations
    • Build, configure, and maintain platforms and tools that support the developer experience within your pillar.
    • Ensure platform reliability, performance, and availability through monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement.
    • Understand and apply site reliability engineering (SRE) principles to maintain platform stability and service levels.
    • Manage and lead a team of SREs, setting priorities around reliability, incident management, and operational excellence.
    • Automate operational tasks and reduce toil through scripting, infrastructure-as-code, and pipeline automation.
  • Security & Governance
    • Embed security practices into platform products and developer workflows, ensuring alignment with GIC's security posture.
    • Work closely with Cyber Security and Risk teams to ensure platforms meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
    • Manage the vulnerability lifecycle — scanning, triage, patching — and integrate security gates (SAST, SCA) into delivery pipelines.
    • Steward security across application, infrastructure, and supply chain domains, including IAM policies, network segmentation, and compliance controls.
    • Balance security controls with developer productivity, finding practical solutions that protect without creating unnecessary friction.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Partner with engineering leads, architects, and business stakeholders to align platform capabilities with organisational priorities.
    • Communicate product direction, trade-offs, and decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Drive adoption of platform products through documentation, onboarding guides, self-service workflows, and responsive support.
  • Pillar-Specific Responsibilities
    • Depending on your pillar, you will also take on responsibilities specific to that product area. You are expected to have depth in at least one pillar, with the ability to work across the others as needed.
      • Project Management Tooling
        • Own the delivery and evolution of project management and collaboration platforms (e.g. Jira, Confluence) that serve the Technology Group.
        • Configure, customise, and administer project management tooling to support workflows, reporting, and governance requirements.
        • Work with the PMO and business stakeholders to translate process requirements into platform capabilities.
        • Ensure platform integrations support data flow between project management tools and other enterprise systems.
      • Cloud Development Environments & IDEs
        • Architect and deliver developer-facing toolchains - CLIs, SDKs, credential helpers, IDE extensions, and devcontainer features — that abstract platform complexity behind clean, well-documented interfaces.
        • Define agent governance frameworks for AI coding tools, including sandboxed execution environments, permission boundaries, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and agent performance telemetry.
        • Architect the agent integration layer that enables developers and operations teams to leverage AI agents for workflows such as automated code review, test generation, incident remediation, and knowledge retrieval.
        • Drive the adoption and evolution of cloud-based development environments across the organisation.

What makes you a successful candidate?

  • Experience & Background
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
    • At least 5 years of relevant experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or product engineering roles.
    • Demonstrable depth in at least one of the two product pillars, with working familiarity across the others.
    • Experience working in enterprise or regulated technology environments is advantageous.
  • Pillar-Specific Skills
    • The following lists the skills relevant to each pillar. We expect depth in at least one — not all.
      • Project Management Tooling
        • Experience administering and customising project management platforms (e.g. Jira, Confluence) at an enterprise scale.
        • Understanding of project management workflows, reporting requirements, and how tooling supports governance processes.
        • Ability to work with business stakeholders to translate process needs into platform configuration and integrations.
      • Cloud Development Environments & IDEs
        • Hands-on experience with Cloud Development Environments, container technologies, and developer tooling (CLIs, SDKs, IDE extensions).
        • Understanding of agentic development patterns — AI coding assistants, agent governance, sandboxed execution, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
        • Experience building developer-facing tools and interfaces with a focus on usability and adoption.
  • Product & Delivery Mindset
    • Demonstrated ability to think about engineering work through a product lens — understanding users, measuring outcomes, and iterating based on feedback.
    • Comfortable owning a product backlog and making prioritisation decisions.
    • Experience working in agile teams with a focus on incremental delivery.
  • Governance & Ways of Working
    • Ability to balance developer experience and autonomy with enterprise requirements for security, standardisation, and cost control.
    • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across engineering, platform, and cybersecurity teams.
    • Comfortable navigating competing priorities and driving alignment.
  • Personal Attributes
    • Clear and effective communicator, both written and verbal.
    • Pragmatic, structured, and outcome-focused.
    • Consistently demonstrates GIC's PRIME values: Prudence, Respect, Integrity, Merit, and Excellence.
