Legal and Compliance Department
We govern, structure, negotiate and execute the largest and most complex deals globally, across all asset classes.
Compliance
You will gate-keep and escalate material regulatory, compliance, reputational risks and incidents to the GIC Board and senior management. You will help to monitor the constantly evolving regulatory landscape to advise our stakeholders of the potential implications and to implement the requisite controls. You will also promote and reinforce staff awareness of the applicable regulatory and compliance policies and procedures.
What impact can you make in this role?
You will be part of the Compliance Division in the Legal and Compliance Department that manages the regulatory, compliance and reputational risks of GIC. We are looking for a highly motivated, intellectually curious and high performing candidate to join our Regulatory Advisory Compliance team as an Assistant Vice President/Vice President.
What will you do as an AVP/VP, Regulatory Advisory Compliance?
- Be part of a team that advises on, evaluates and implements the requisite compliance policies and controls to ensure that GIC complies with all regulatory and compliance requirements that apply to GIC’s investment, trading and operational activities globally.
- Monitor and stay abreast of the latest regulatory requirements and enforcement developments and trends that apply to GIC’s investment, trading and operational activities, including the Sustainability space, and advise stakeholders in a timely manner to ensure that the appropriate risk and impact analysis and assessments are performed. Where applicable, this would entail taking the lead or working with other members of the team, external legal counsels and other stakeholders across GIC to implement change initiatives to address such regulatory trends and/or requirements.
- Provide sound, pragmatic and timely regulatory and compliance advice to GIC’s portfolio managers / deal teams and internal stakeholders on their investment, trading and operational activities. Such activities can range from trading activities in global securities and derivatives markets, private investments, new products, initiatives or trading strategies.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to advise on the implementation of robust and effective controls and processes to ensure compliance with all applicable global laws, regulations and rules.
- Work closely with external legal counsel in the relevant jurisdictions to seek regulatory and compliance advice where required.
- Support stakeholders in GIC’s engagement with global regulators, which includes liaising with stakeholders and formulating appropriate responses in a timely manner to queries from regulators, and/or coordinate directly with external parties such as GIC’s Clients, global regulators, custodians and broker dealers on any regulatory and/or compliance risk issues where required.
- Monitor and assess the applicability and impact of the relevant financial sector licensing obligations in countries where GIC has established a global office to conduct investment activities as a discretionary fund manager.
What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?
- At least 8 to 15 years of relevant compliance experience in a financial institution, regulator and/or securities exchange. Candidates with prior experience in a regulatory advisory compliance role or experience working at a regulatory body are preferred.
- A strong understanding and knowledge of financial products and how securities / financial markets work and operate.
- Candidates with a working knowledge and understanding of key financial regulations issued by regulators such as the MAS, US SEC, US CFTC, UK FCA is preferred.
- Candidates with experience and keen interest in ESG/Sustainability related regulations and developments, and/or markets compliance experience covering specific asset classes will be preferred.
- Proven expertise and experience in reading and interpreting laws and regulations with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication abilities and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with impact and confidence to internal or external stakeholders and senior management, and to uphold compliance positions and decisions under pressure.
