Investment Services Private Markets

We manage deal structuring, due diligence and closing. We provide financial operations to GIC’s private equity, infrastructure, and real estate assets, as well as tax structuring, corporate holding structures, valuations, and financial reporting.

 

Tax

You will help to provide tax support to the GIC group and investments made by GIC. Our coverage includes enterprise tax, public markets, and private markets tax.

 

What impact can you make in this role?

You will be part of a team that provides investment services on private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and cross-strategy investments. 

 

What will you do as an Associate/AVP Tax, Public Markets?

Reporting to the SVP, Enterprise Tax, the individual will predominantly support GIC’s public capital market investments across the globe.

 

Responsibilities

 

  1. Provide tax advice and support to GIC’s global public market investments

 

  • Provide targeted tax advice and support to relevant stakeholders on GIC’s global public market investments, including tax treaty interpretation and related practices.
  • Monitor and keep abreast to changes in tax laws, processes and administrative practices by leveraging on a network of external advisors and service providers. Analyze and communicate the impact of such changes on GIC’s current and future investments to the relevant internal stakeholders effectively.
  • Manage and organize requisite periodic tax filings with various tax authorities, ensuring statutory deadlines are met.
  • Manage effectively and seek avenues for increased efficiencies relating to the application of withholding taxes on GIC’s global investments, including the securing of exemptions, relief or refunds.
  • Pro-actively identify best-in-class tax advisors to support the specific requirements of investment teams and fulfill statutory obligations. On-board advisors, maintain relationships and monitor performance to ensure that advisors deliver to GIC’s service and value expectations.
  • Prepare and deliver tax reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain up-to-date tax documentation with respect to GIC’s public market investments
  • Pro-actively identify opportunities for efficiencies by leveraging technological tools and solutions to streamline workflows and processes.

 

  1. Build and maintain strong relationships both within and outside of GIC

 

  • Develop, maintain and manage relationships with key individuals within GIC (i.e. Investment Services Public Markets, Legal and Compliance, and other Corporate Services departments) as well as outside of GIC (i.e. Clients, tax advisors and service providers).
  • Build and garner the trust and support of investment teams.
  • Work effectively with colleagues across GIC, tax advisors and service providers.
  • Promote collaboration and resolution of issues within and across teams.

 

 What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role? 

  • At least 3 years of international tax and relevant operational tax experience.
  • An accounting/commerce or law degree with tax knowledge and/or holds the Chartered Accountant (CA) designation or comparable professional credentials.
  • A strong team player who displays teamwork and collaboration.
  • A strong communicator who is able to adapt own communication style to different audiences.
  • Demonstrates strong writing, analytical and oral presentation skills.
  • Has strong organizational/project management skills and the ability to progress multiples assignments independently and efficiently.
  • Has excellent attention to detail and consistently high levels of accuracy.
  • Demonstrates personal initiative, strives to innovate and build best practices, but is highly attuned to the need for practical solutions.
  • Demonstrates an ability to think broadly about tax information, think through problems strategically, assess a variety of factors and recommend a pragmatic solution.
  • Experience in performing reconciliation of the expected to actual reclaims withholding tax in a timely and accurate manner with the use of tooling.
