Legal and Compliance Department
We govern, structure, negotiate and execute the largest and most complex deals globally, across all asset classes.
Compliance
You will gate-keep and escalate material regulatory, compliance, reputational risks and incidents to the GIC Board and senior management. You will help to monitor the constantly evolving regulatory landscape to advise our stakeholders of the potential implications and to implement the requisite controls. You will also promote and reinforce staff awareness of the applicable regulatory and compliance policies and procedures.
What impact can you make in this role?
You will be part of the Compliance Division in the Legal and Compliance Department that manages the regulatory, compliance and reputational risks of GIC. We are looking for a highly motivated, energetic and high calibre individual to join our Regulatory Compliance team as an Associate.
What will you do as an Associate, Regulatory Advisory Compliance?
General:
- Provide sound compliance advice on business initiatives and strategies, including ad hoc requests from the business, and regulatory reports/inquiries e.g. on new investment proposals, trading of new products and deal transactions
- Ongoing tracking and review of global/regional regulatory developments and changes through, e.g. legal bulletins, alerts from custodians, news relating to global laws, regulations and exchange rules
- Monitor and analyze impact of new regulatory developments for GIC investment activities. This includes review and analysis of notifications received by brokers, custodians and/or external law firms; and disseminating relevant information to stakeholders on a timely basis
- Implementation of regulatory rules by working and coordinating closely with responsible departments to advise on and support the implementation of the required policies and controls
- Assess applicability of regulatory licensing requirements in overseas countries where GIC conducts business as a fund manager
Specific investment regulations:
- Regulations governing investments in various jurisdictions (e.g. US SEC, EU, APAC), large shareholding disclosure rules, exchange trading rules, foreign direct investment regimes, takeover requirements etc.
- Rules governing public equity and debt investments, securities lending, futures/options and OTC derivatives trading
- Sell side knowledge of trading rules and how capital markets operate will be beneficial. Private equity knowledge will also be relevant
- Qualification of GIC to make certain investments as required by law in various jurisdictions, e.g. QFII, FPI, PI
What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?
- At least 3-4 years of relevant compliance experience in a financial institution, regulator or securities exchange, licensed fintech firm, preferably in the markets and/or regulatory advisory compliance space.
- Interest and/or experience in reading and interpreting laws and regulations (and in our case, keen ability to apply in context of GIC’s investment and operational activities)
- Interest in regulatory technology, ability to use data analytical tools such as Tableau, SQL and basic computer programming skills in Python will be strong advantage
- General understanding of, and a keen interest in financial markets and products
- Strong analytical, communication and influencing skills, ability to convey analyses and ideas clearly and succinctly
- Self-starter, takes initiative, accountable, able to conduct independent research on regulatory development
