Investment Services Private Markets (ISPVM)

The Investment Services Private Markets Department (ISPVM) is responsible for investment services for the private market across the GIC group. It is responsible for providing deal structuring and closing, portfolio monitoring, valuation, finance, operations, tax, data management and analytics services, in the execution of private market investments across Private Equity, Private Credits, Real Estate and Infrastructure. It is also involved in financial reporting and accounting of investment holding companies, as well as operations and financial due diligence for asset operations.

 

Business Strategy & Risk 

The Business Strategy & Risk office assists the Director of ISPVM in steering, advancing, and executing the ISPVM strategic plans. This involves recognising growth opportunities, evaluating and mitigating risks, for market leadership. The team focuses on Business Risk & Control, Strategic Partnerships, Management Office, and Sustainability Solutions.

You will be part of an integrated investment service team that partners the business and drives sustainable growth in the private markets investments, in a risk and controlled manner. This role requires a forward-thinking individual with a strong ability to articulate and advocate different ways of doing things. A risk and control specialist with a passion for innovation/transformation.

 

What will you do as an Associate/AVP, Business Strategy and Risk?

Functional Expertise

  • Assist in overseeing the department’s risk framework and governance in alignment with enterprise baselines; this includes:
    1. Risk framework development/reviews (i.e. establish framework to govern operational processes; proactively identify, establish and run continuous thematic process and control reviews on key risk areas/ control weaknesses; identify and resolve emerging risks via comprehensive mitigation plan with strengthen governance framework)
    2. Front-to-back process review and re-engineering (i.e. identify opportunities for process improvements with functional teams, process owners and digital office. Propose innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, effectiveness on controls)
    3. Develop operational management capabilities and proactive risk monitoring activities (i.e. design risk metrics in collaboration with process owners, create management dashboards)
    4. Manage operational risk incidents/ audits in collaboration with Operational Risk Management and Internal Audit teams (i.e. reviewing audit findings/responses, identifying root causes to operational risk events and work with respective teams to close the gaps)
    5. Steer department’s risk culture (i.e. running risk forums, maintenance of knowledge platform, risk trainings).
  • Support and manage ad-hoc projects in collaboration with functional teams.
  • Drive, support, and coordinate strategy development across the department; this includes cross-department and/or cross-divisions strategy initiatives, transformational tracks, and management office activities.

 

What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?

  • 3 to 6 years of related experience in internal audit, operational risk or similar vocation within Financial Services over a broad range of strategies and jurisdictions. Proficiency in business intelligence and technology adoption is a plus.
  • University degree in relevant field (business, accounting, or similar), excellent academics, preferably with a CPA designation.
  • Experience in process-reengineering with good understanding of efficiency, internal controls, and governance in a complex environment
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively and articulate new ideas.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to work independently, possess strong project management capability.
  • Good understanding of both public and private market investment operations life cycle, processes/policies/controls/risks/best practices, valuation, global regulatory and compliance rules, investment structures.
  • Ability to work with data to build analytics

  • Self-starter, committed, adaptable, and driven with the ability to navigate in a fast-paced environment. Deliver high standards under extended time pressure with minimal supervision. Able to multitask and manage several workstreams concurrently.
  • Having a growth mindset is essential and being open to ad-hoc transformational initiatives. 
  • Provide constructive, pragmatic solutions, while demonstrating maturity and openness to feedback.
