Investment Services Private Market

The Investment Services Private Market (ISPVM) Department provides strategic investment services and financial management for the Private Markets within the GIC group. Leveraging data and emerging technologies, the department oversees the development and implementation of business infrastructural plans and operating models to scale GIC’s alternative asset investments globally. This covers deal structuring, due diligence and closing, financial operations across GIC’s assets, as well as tax structuring, corporate holding structures, valuations, and financial reporting.

 

Group Controllers

The Investment Services Private Markets (ISPVM) department at GIC is looking to onboard a Associate/AVP to play a role on group controllership, including but not limited to, accounting, financial reporting, FP&A, and entity management for GIC’s investments.

 

What will you do as a Group Controller?

 

Centralized Accounting Operations

  • Manage key accounting processes as part of a centralized finance function for group level accounts and its subsidiaries, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with internal policies and deadlines.
    • Accounting Transaction Processing: Oversee the end-to-end processing of accounting book of record derived from investment and financial transactions, ensuring all relevant data and activities are accurately captured and updated in the accounting and management systems. This includes timely input of accounting entries and maintaining up-to-date records to support effective financial management.
    • Account Reconciliation: Ensure that all account reconciliations, including cash and intercompany balances, are completed promptly and accurately to maintain the integrity of financial records.
    • Exception Management & Issue Resolution: Proactively review exception items and alerts generated by accounting system dashboards. Collaborate closely with the internal teams and service vendors to investigate, resolve, and prevent recurring issues, thereby supporting data accuracy and process reliability.
    • General Ledger (GL) Close Monitoring: Oversee and monitor the quarterly GL closing process in the accounting system, ensuring that all entries are recorded correctly and consistently across all portfolio groups and that the close is completed within established timelines.
    • Management Accounts Review: Timely review of in-house management accounts to ensure books of records are accurate and made available for downstream usage.
    • Outsourced Accounting Records: Ensure timely receipt of outsourced quarterly accounting packages and reports from accounting agents. Diligently review these reports, identify and resolve any exception items, and ensure that all external deliverables meet the organization’s standards for accuracy and completeness.

 

Audit Support

  • Review the annual accounts of investment holding companies, prepare supporting documentation, and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors to facilitate smooth and successful audit processes.
  • Continuous improvements on the global audit program through post audit review actions.

 

Finance Transformation

  • Drive improvements and initiatives by redesigning processes, implementing new technologies, and enhancing data analytics capabilities. This position works closely with stakeholders to identify opportunities for efficiency, automation, and strategic value, ensuring that the Group Controllers adapt to evolving business needs and regulatory requirements.

 

What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?

  • Possesses a strong academic background in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Holds a Certified Public Accountant qualification, with Big 4 training highly preferred.
  • Brings 5 to 7 years of relevant professional experience, with substantial exposure to both accounting and audit functions.
  • Demonstrates solid understanding and practical knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards, including IFRS and SFRS.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications and experienced in using accounting software systems; prior hands-on experience with SAP for financial closing processes is a distinct advantage.
  • Committed, motivated, and meticulous, thriving in fast-paced and dynamic work environments.
  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities.
  • A collaborative team player with exceptional interpersonal, communication, analytical, problem-solving, and IT skills.
  • A proactive self-starter with strong initiative, able to manage multiple priorities, confidently engage with diverse stakeholders, and work independently to deliver high-quality results
