Sustainability Office (SO)
The Sustainability Office is a centre of excellence for sustainable investing practices that drives GIC’s focus on this area as an enterprise priority. The Office is responsible for (i) partnering with GIC’s investment teams to integrate sustainability-related considerations in the investment process through the co-development of methodologies, tools, and frameworks, (ii) conducting industry-leading sustainability research that informs the firm’s view on financial materiality and direction on sustainability-themed investing, (iii) defining GIC’s public stance on sustainable investing and the metrics used to measure the sustainability performance of the portfolio, and (iv) providing trusted advice to GIC’s clients to support their sustainable investing strategy. These responsibilities are executed in close collaboration with asset class department-level sustainability experts, and with middle office and corporate services leaders.
What will you do as an Associate/AVP, Total Portfolio Sustainability Investment Research & Strategy?

Conduct thematic/macro research: Perform in-depth investment research on sustainability issues such as climate change, nature, water, biodiversity, supply chains, labor management, and corporate governance. Evaluate their macroeconomic and investment implications and establish the firm’s view on these matters.

Collaborate with investment teams: Partner with top-of-the-house investment teams to develop comprehensive sustainability integration frameworks, methodologies, tools, and analytics for the total portfolio.

Analyse sustainability policy developments: Track sustainability-related policy changes for 1-2 major countries, analyzing their macroeconomic and market impacts, and generating investment insights for senior management and investment teams.
What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?
- Professional experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in conducting macro and/or thematic research across various asset classes. Experience with multi-asset allocation is highly regarded.
- Educational background: Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in finance, economics, statistics, sustainability/climate, or related fields

Analytical and technical skills: Strong quantitative analytical abilities, statistical/econometric skills, proficient in macroeconomic analysis, and adept at systematic investment research. Expertise in R/Python, MS Office products, and market data services (e.g., Refinitiv, Bloomberg, and/or Factset).

Connecting dots: Ability to synthesize information across sustainability issues, the real economy, and financial markets to produce differentiated investment insights.

Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through research notes, publications, and presentations.

Collaborative mindset: Demonstrated ability to engage proactively with key internal stakeholders and external partners to build consensus on critical sustainability investment initiatives.

Project Management: Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams effectively and independently.
