Legal and Compliance Department

 

The Legal and Compliance Department (LCD) manages the legal and regulatory compliance risks, and partners with the business to ensure that legal and regulatory issues and risks are identified, assessed and dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.
 

We are looking for a highly motivated, high caliber candidate to join our Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) team as a Vice President.

 

Responsibilities

 

Advisory -

 

  • Advise on GIC’s FCC Framework, which covers anti-bribery and corruption, AML/CFT and sanctions compliance, and identify and escalate risk and control issues/gaps and propose robust and pragmatic solutions to address them.
  • Advise on other general compliance policies, which includes conflicts of interest, gifts & entertainment and external appointments.
  • Conduct periodic policy and process reviews and consultation with stakeholders, and present proposed policy changes to GIC’s Group Executive Committee and/or Group Risk Committee.
  • Monitor global developments in FCC laws and regulations, in particular, sanctions regimes administered by the UN and other major jurisdictions (e.g. US, UK, EU and China).
  • Advise on how the applicable FCC laws and regulations and sanctions regimes apply to and impact GIC, and how the corresponding policies and controls should be implemented.
  • Conduct training for stakeholders. 
  • Represent Compliance on GIC’s Reputational Risk Working Group and Sustainability Working Group, and advise on the applicable reputational, regulatory and compliance issues that are highlighted to these forum.

 

Controls Implementation -

 

  • Review and process FCC due diligence requests submitted by stakeholders.
  • Perform FCC monitoring and review of alerts using the Dow Jones system.
  • Perform communications surveillance on FCC risk scenarios and general compliance scenarios.
  • Manage the conduct management process if any policy violations are identified.
  • Support system enhancements for the implementation of robust and effective controls.
  • Review staff’s declarations on conflicts of interest, gift & entertainment, and external appointments.

 

Requirements

 

  • Preferably 12 years’ experience in Compliance and in reviewing/interpreting laws and regulations, with majority of the experience in the FCC function. 
  • Strong working knowledge of financial products, securities trading in public markets and/or investments in private markets.
  • Strong analytical skills and clear thought process abilities.
  • Meticulous with a keen eye for detail (e.g. need to review lengthy due diligence reports, sometimes running into hundreds of pages) to identify, investigate and address FCC and general compliance risks.
  • Effective and clear verbal and written communication skills, including communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. investment professionals, external legal counsels) of varying levels of seniority.
  • Confident, driven, proactive, able to work independently and being a strong team player at the same time.
