GIC’s Economics & Investment Strategy department (EIS) is a team of professionals who work closely with Investment Committees to set the Total Portfolio’s strategic outlook and asset allocation over long- and medium- term horizons; and to identify, research, recommend and initiate appropriate responses on major structural trends that could significantly affect the risk-return profile of the Total Portfolio.


China is a major investment destination for GIC. The market is evolving constantly with many structural changes and cyclical challenges.  To continually enhance our understanding of the market, EIS is looking for a Macro Analyst/ Economist to research and monitor key changes, and make timely recommendations for the Total Portfolio.  The Macro Analyst/ Economist will work with colleagues across different departments, and analyze and make full use of the collective intelligence from internal and external sources to help drive the best investment decisions.




Macroeconomic and financial market research

  • Help Senior Economists monitor cyclical and structural developments of the Chinese economy and financial markets, with the objective of improving the long term macroeconomic framework and the medium- and long term scenarios to better understand the drivers of market returns.
  • Identify and articulate investment implications that are relevant for GIC’s investment horizons, and propose appropriate strategies for GIC.

Monitoring of policy implementation

  • Assess and analyze major policy initiatives, and monitor their implementation at various level of governments.
  • Engagement of relevant policymakers and market participants.

Build and manage in-house knowledge platform on China

  • Leverage on technology to build a platform to integrate and synthesize internal and external intelligence on key aspects of China for GIC-wide use.
  • Help Senior Economists to identify key issues and trends that could have meaningful impact on GIC.
  • Help Senior Economists to identify key subject experts and lead research initiatives on various topics related to China.
  • Regular updates to GIC investment teams as well as our stakeholders


  • At least 5 years’ experience in covering macro and investment issues in China, with a good understanding of the political, economic and social developments as well as financial market dynamics. Candidates with hands-on experience on how policies are formulated and implemented will be favorably considered.  
  • Ability to link the dots and understand how macroeconomic and policy developments drive asset markets.
  • A curious mind and ability to see from multiple perspectives and time horizons. Self-driven with ability to anticipate changing market dynamics.
  • Proactive in reaching out to stakeholders and portfolio managers. Ability to lead and drive discussions.
  • A team player with ability and enthusiasm to work in a global and multicultural environment
  • Fluency in English and Chinese is required.
