Investment Risk & Performance
You will be part of a team that provides an independent and objective assessment of investment risk and performance drivers of GIC’s active strategies.
What will you do as an VP/SVP, Investment Risk (Real Estate)
You will be the senior investment risk manager for IRP’s Real Estate cluster. You will lead the risk managers in the cluster and provide an independent and objective view of investment risk and performance drivers of GIC’s Real Estate equity and credit strategies. As senior risk partner to the Real Estate business, you will also provide risk advisory to the Strategy CIO and members of the Real Estate Investment Committee.
- Portfolio Risk & Performance Assessment: Providing CRO, Group CIO & the Strategy CIO with an assessment of the risk & performance drivers of our Real Estate strategies, to support them in portfolio construction, capital allocation and ensuring that the risk of the strategy is appropriately managed. This would include:
- Monitoring developments in the market and assessing the potential implications of such developments on the strategies and investments;
- Monitoring & reviewing the strategies’ investment activities;
- Participating in discussions with the investment teams and providing advisory regarding the strategy’s risk taking, risk profile, and portfolio and risk management processes;
- Developing portfolio analytics across a range of qualitative and quantitative performance & risk metrics, including stress testing and scenario analysis, to support risk monitoring and strategy assessment
- Product Assessment: Evaluating the investment risk of new products that the strategy is contemplating. Such evaluation is provided to the CRO to ensure that the risk-taking in such new products are Compensated, Informed & Authorised.
- Risk Governance:
- Working alongside front office partners Real Estate to ensure prompt escalation of risk issues to senior management;
- Developing, implementing and reviewing frameworks & policies on the management of investment risk.
- Deal Evaluation: Providing an independent assessment of the risk-reward of large Real Estate deals to the CRO in support of the Group Executive Committee’s evaluation of the deal.
- Cluster Leadership: Leading and mentoring junior risk managers in the Real Estate cluster, offering technical guidance and providing oversight and direction over their work.
What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in a front office investment related role, and/or a senior investment risk management role within a financial institution. Experience in the Real Estate or Infrastructure asset class is preferred
- Strong market understanding and ability to assess implications to portfolios and investments
- Strong analytical background and deep understanding of either (i) portfolio construction, (ii) risk management or (iii) product and deal valuation and modelling. Candidate should have the ability and willingness to develop the skills in the other areas
- Good team player in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated capability and experience in managing a team
- Persuasive communicator with the ability to clearly articulate ideas, market views and technical topics to various stakeholders such as senior management and front office partners
