Integrated Strategies Group

We have a flexible investment directive and invests across the public, and private asset markets as well as across the capital structure.

What impact can you make in this role?

We are looking for a suitable candidate to join our Integrated Strategies Group (ISG) to help capture investment opportunities in Japan across the capital structure. ISG is designed to pursue opportunities without being constrained by a single asset class or instrument, at a time when changing shareholder structures and more assertive corporate approaches to growth and capital allocation are driving demand for flexible capital.

What will you do?

• Will be involved in evaluating and executing investments across the capital structure; common equity and PIPEs, mezzanine, downside-protected instruments, and minority investments in private companies with a primary focus on listed Japanese companies
• Originate as well as execute develop independent investment theses, build and cultivate your own network of management teams, owners and intermediaries, and generate new opportunities rather than working only on assigned deals
• Lead and contribute to due diligence, pricing, structuring, negotiations and legal workstreams; as part of a small, high-calibre team, VPs are expected to be involved end-to-end
• Support portfolio companies’ post-investment through M&A financing, business portfolio optimisation and capital allocation insights, introductions to GIC's global corporate network, and IR support — engaging constructively and commercially without over-intervening
• Collaborate with investment professionals across GIC, drawing on the firm's global relationships and sector expertise to support both investment decisions and portfolio companies
• Be part of special projects within the firm as assigned from time to time

What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?

• Good academic qualifications with at least 7 years of work experience in a top-tier investment bank, private equity, credit, special situations, or hybrid capital platform
• Strong commercial judgement and experience in deal execution, diligence and closing
• Ability and willingness to work across public and private markets and across the capital structure, rather than within a single asset class or product framework
• Structuring aptitude, including familiarity with instruments that combine downside protection with upside participation
• Entrepreneurial, origination-minded approach with the initiative to build proprietary ideas and relationships
• Strong written and communication skills; good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task (i.e. simultaneously execute and assist on multiple transactions in addition to portfolio work)
• Ability to work collaboratively in deal teams
• Intellectual curiosity, strong business acumen, and genuine interest in operating beyond traditional asset class boundaries
